Newman was inspired to go to law school in the wake of her brother’s 2011 murder. “When I was sitting in the courtroom with the monster who murdered him, I felt helpless,” she explained. “I felt like I wanted to do something.” She says she plans to focus on telecom law and policy after graduating.
