law school loans costIt’s been more than a decade since Kyle McEntee and Patrick Lynch, co-founders of Law School Transparency (LST), were crowned as Above the Law’s 2010 Lawyers of the Year for their creation of the nonprofit organization that pushed for detailed and accurate reporting of law school graduate employment data. In all the time that’s passed since then, the American Bar Association has gotten on board with LST’s genius, publishing a wealth of information about graduates’ employment prospects and bar exam pass rates that even U.S. News now relies upon in its ranking of law schools.

McEntee, LST’s executive director, has guided the nonprofit through thick and thin, overseeing its mission to advise prospective law students about the value of a law degree. While serving as an advocate for change in the legal profession, he’s maintained the LST website as a data clearinghouse to guide would-be law students’ decisions and help them find the best law school with robust information in hand.

Today, in the pinnacle of its success as a changemaker for law schools, the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) announced that it had acquired LST, and that McEntee would join LSAC’s LawHub team as senior director for prelaw solutions. “With an expanded reach and a team of people dedicated to improving student outcomes, we’ll be able to further LST’s mission beyond what we could have hoped to do as a small nonprofit on a shoe-string budget,” he noted in a recent conversation with Above the Law. “I’m so excited to be a part of it.”

Just because LST is now part of a LSAC doesn’t mean that his mission has changed; in fact, McEntee says his interests are well aligned with those of LSAC in that students’ best interests remain front and center. “I’ll be focused on improving student outcomes. Students deserve access to high-quality information curated by people who want to see and develop a strong pipeline of students from all backgrounds for the practice of law.”

Now, with LSAC’s backing, LST will be able to better support prospective law students by empowering them to make strategic choices about their future careers in the legal profession. “For me, this is a really important moment in my career,” McEntee said. “Although it feels like the culmination of a lot of time and energy, it’s really just the start.”

Congratulations to Law School Transparency on this outstanding achievement!
