pedestrians-400811_1920 (1)Paralegals play a critical role in the ecosystem of most law firms and legal organizations, often handling some of the most crucial aspects of any case or matter, even if they’re far from the spotlight.

Like other members of legal teams, paralegals must follow principles of confidentiality. Too often, though, the paralegal’s role and attendant obligations are overlooked in legal training and professional development.

To address this dynamic, PLI is offering a one-hour interactive program, Confidentiality for Paralegals, designed to give paralegals a solid introduction to the fundamentals of confidentiality that will help them meet their legal obligations and build trust with attorneys and clients.

Offered in webinar format, this program will present a real-time, online discussion among paralegals and PLI faculty that will explore best practices for communicating important issues in client privacy, confidentiality, and privilege. These discussions will be enhanced by a multimedia presentation illustrating key concepts in areas including:

  • The difference between client confidentiality, privilege, and privacy
  • The major types of client confidentiality challenges that arise for paralegals and legal assistants in law offices and in-house legal departments
  • Methods and tools to prevent paralegals from breaching client confidentiality, waiving client privilege, or violating client privacy
  • How to avoid unintentional disclosure
  • How to identify client confidentiality policies and procedures
  • How privacy concerns inform client choices
  • Who the client is when you represent an organization
  • Exceptions to disclosure rules

Developed by the learning design experts with PLI’s Interactive Learning Center, the program features a high level of engagement and attendee participation. The program is ideal for paralegals, legal assistants, and other legal professionals at any level. Register today.
