Which Biglaw firms are most beloved by general counsel for their superior client service? If that seems like it was a steep hill to climb during the pandemic, that’s because it was. The BTI Consulting Group set to find out which firms handled the task with ease with its latest ranking, the Client Service A-Team. In case you’re unfamiliar with this ranking, it measures the top 30 law firms corporate counsel identify as delivering the very best in terms of client service.

To compile the ranking, BTI Consulting spoke with almost 250 legal decision-makers who were asked to name firms that excelled in 17 different client-service-related activities, seven of which reigned supreme above all overs, including: mobilizing resources quickly, fielding the absolute best team, quickly assessing the situation, a commitment to help, delivering value for the dollar, client focus, and understanding the client’s business.

So, which firms are considered the best of the best when it comes to client service? Per BTI Consulting, the firms that made the latest top 30 ranking performed 9 to 15 times better than the typical firm in terms of client service. The ranking notes, “Each firm earns their performance the hard way: delivering the best.”

To make the Client Service A-Team, the following 30 Biglaw firms were mentioned most often across all categories:

  1. Jones Day
  2. DLA Piper
  3. Gibson Dunn
  4. Arnold & Porter
  5. Sidley
  6. McGuireWoods
  7. Littler
  8. Kirkland & Ellis
  9. Mayer Brown
  10. Morgan Lewis
  11. Faegre Drinker
  12. King & Spalding
  13. Latham & Watkins
  14. Duane Morris
  15. Jackson Lewis
  16. Skadden
  17. Davis Polk
  18. Dentons
  19. Ogletree Deakins
  20. Baker Botts
  21. Folen & Lardner
  22. Sheppard Mullin
  23. Shook Hardy & Bacon
  24. McDermott Will & Emery
  25. Covington
  26. Holland & Knight
  27. Eversheds Sutherland
  28. Greenberg Traurig
  29. Pillsbury
  30. Seyfarth Shaw

During the course of the pandemic, 70 firms improved their client-service performance at more than twice the rate of all other law firms, ranging from awesome improvement (five stars) to impressive improvement (one star). Out of those 70, only five firms received the awesome improvement ranking. They are:

Baker Botts
Carlton Fields
DLA Piper
Faegre Drinker
Mayer Brown

If attorneys at your firm make more of an effort to better understand your clients’ businesses and provide them with more frequent updates, then you may find your place of work on this list next time around. Congratulations to all 30 firms that made the Client Service A-List. You’ve proven yourselves to be outstanding when it comes to making corporate clients happy, and that’s worth celebrating.
